Biking in Baltimore

By Samantha Powell | Spring 2011

It’s Monday morning and you’re off to work. You rush to get ready, eat breakfast and make it out of the door as fast as possible all to avoid the traffic.

Now imagine waking up, not getting ready in a rush and even having time for scrambled eggs in the morning. For some cyclists in Baltimore dodging potholes in the road and riding in unfinished bike lanes is better than sitting and waiting in the car as traffic builds up.

According to the Baltimore City Department of Transportation there have been over 300 bike racks installed and 77 miles of bike lanes in Baltimore City since 2006. The Baltimore bike community continues to grow and despite a few hesitations and hiccups on the road, City cyclists continue to take the streets

Stories:

Cyclists ride on despite Baltimore’s road conditions

Riding down the streets of Baltimore it may be difficult to avoid pot holes and cars that drive in the bike lane. But cyclists work to make their presence known on the road.

DIY bike shops, not your average Baltimore store

Non-traditional bike shops are sprouting throughout the country and Baltimore continues the trend. Velocipede and Baltimore Bicycle Works offer you the tools and resources for you bike, but come with a little twist.
